Holding a Paintbrush

Biography

KEVIN COLLINS

RECEDING LIGHTS PUNCTUATE THE SKY LIKE STITCHES ACROSS A PIECE OF FABRIC, EACH ONE GIVES THE LANDSCAPE A WARMING WELCOMING GLOW. EVERYTHING BECOMES MAGICAL AT NIGHT, AS THE STARK LIGHT OF DAY GIVES WAY TO THE POWER OF IMAGINATION AND WONDER THAT THE DARKNESS ALLOWS.  COLLINS PORTRAYS HIS VISION OF HIS SURROUNDINGS IN A SERIES OF HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL BRUSHSTROKES, WHICH CREATE A TEXTURAL AND ENERGETIC ARTWORK. HIS PALETTE IS A PLAY OF CONTRASTS, FROM THE DARK INDIGOS THAT ARE REMINISCENT OF DENIMS, THE HAUNTING PALE TONES OF INDIGO, TO THE WARM HUES OF RAW SIENNA.

HIS DISTINCTIVE AND UNIQUE STYLE OF PAINTING IS A DIRECT INFLUENCE FROM HIS LONG EXPERIENCE AS A HANDLOOM WEAVER AND TEXTILE DESIGNER . THE FABRIC-LIKE APPEARANCE OF HIS PAINTINGS ARE A PURPOSEFUL ONE.
